Tectono?stratigraphic evolution of the rift and post?rift systems in the Northern Campos Basin, offshore Brazil

The Campos and Santos Basins have been a focus of subsurface studies since the discovery in 2006 large accumulations hydrocarbons Early Cretaceous rift post-rift strata below Aptian evaporites. In this study, regional 2D seismic lines, 3D survey well data were interpreted to reconstruct tectono-stratigraphic evolution stages northern sector Basin. Detailed interpretation geological modelling used subdivide pre-salt sedimentary record. This revealed diachronous strain distribution along Guriri Fault System (GFS), roughly NE-SW striking fault-bounded horst that was rift-related deformation. syn-rift succession is be product two episodes rifting (RP1 RP2) with contrasting fault activity patterns lithostratigraphy. Volcaniclastics coarse siliciclastics RP1 deposited under WNW-ESE transtension formed discontinuous half-grabens followed by extensive erosion tectonic inversion. Structurally controlled bioclastic rudstones hybrid deposits characterize RP2 elongated delimit GFS horst, which developed an NW-SE extension. Deposition increasingly less tectonically active transitional dominated thermal subsidence gradually led healing structural relief. Selective reactivation faults testifies inversion through compression from immediate throughout evaporite deposition. These interpretations are put into context recent geochronological onshore dyke emplacement new age constraints for end deposition sequence. Therefore, we propose earlier onset on Basin, at Berriasian.
